Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt serves as a regional referral center for the specialized care of pediatric patients. It is the only hospital in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky dedicated solely to the care of acutely and chronically ill children.
Serving a referral population of more than 2 million people, Children’s Hospital is certified by the state of Tennessee as a Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center (CRPC). As such, it is capable of providing comprehensive specialized pediatric medical and surgical care to all acutely ill and injured children. This is the highest level of certification for pediatric care in Tennessee.
As a CRPC, Children's Hospital works with referral hospitals in Middle Tennessee to improve pediatric emergency care through the following:
- Establishing pediatric transfer and educational agreements with referral hospitals
- Providing pediatric educational opportunities for healthcare providers
- Monitoring pediatric patient outcomes and implementing quality improvement programs to further improve pediatric care
