Frequently Asked Questions

How long must a patient be hospitalized to qualify for hospital school services?
A patient must be absent from his/her school for 10 days or more before they can be officially enrolled into Children’s Hospital School Program. They can begin receiving school services, such as tutoring or help with school assignments, immediately after admission and referral to the hospital school program is complete.

Will the student attend school in the hospital every day?
No. We act as a transient school, providing the same services required for a student in homebound education programs. State and county education guidelines where the student is enrolled will determine the amount of time a student will spend receiving classroom instruction. For example, the state of Tennessee requires a student in the homebound program to receive three hours of school per week.

Will students who enrolled in the Hospital School Program receive academic credit through their school?
Yes.
