Child Life Internship

Thank you for your interest in our Child Life internship experience, a 16-week program requiring at least 40 clinical hours per week. The internship provides high-quality instruction and preparation for emerging child life professionals.

We accept students who will be enrolled in a college or university at the time of the internship placement. We are unable to accept independent students.

Applicants who may have completed a practicum placement at Vanderbilt are encouraged to seek internship placements at other facilities to broaden perspectives and diversify experiences.

Child Life interns receive multiple skill-building and educational opportunities in medical play; psychological preparation; charting, planning, and supervising developmentally appropriate play activities; working within the healthcare team; family-centered care; prioritizing needs; and developmental assessment.

Additional learning experiences take place through in-services, pediatric grand rounds, and multidisciplinary rounds. Our internship experience spans the pediatric age and developmental spectrum, as well as various health care system areas our Child Life staff members serve.

Our internship experience has been successfully training students since 1980. We continually evaluate our programming to ensure a comprehensive and outstanding experience.
