Help Me - 30 second clip:

About the Song from music therapist Jenny Plume

I had been working with Amy for a little while, and we had established quite a good rapport by the time we wrote this song. I remember sitting in one of the quiet rooms in the hospital, away from her regular room, with the sun streaming in through the windows. Amy was at a low point emotionally and was really able to use music as a form of expressing herself. She was open to talking about her feelings of being confined both physically and emotionally.

What resulted was a deep song, with a sense of yearning for help and hopefulness for what the future will bring. Filled with a tender longing in her voice, Alison Krauss breathed soul and magic into the song. Amy and her mom travelled to Nashville to watch as the song came to life in the studio.

Lyrics

I want my freedom but I can’t be free
Until I’m back to the person that I used to be
When this anxiety quits overruling me
I’ll be on the road to recovery

This road is independent and I can breathe
Happy smiling faces, joyful places is what I see
This road will take me home inside my soul
To my home of inner peace

Help me get where I’m going
Help me see what I want to see
Help me be what I want to be
Help me breathe what I want to breathe
Help me

I’m tired of feeling caged and imprisoned
I’m tired of being hooked up to all this junk
I’m tired of being lonely and depressed
My soul feels like it’s being sunk

So help me get where I’m going
Help me see what I want to see
Help me be what I want to be
Help me breathe what I want to breathe
Help me

So please make the time for me and sit a little while
Don’t leave me alone, just try…………

And………chorus
