Oh Happy Day - 30 second clip:

About the Song from music therapist Jenny Plume

This song is a celebration. Austin was able to write a beautiful piece of poetry and together we created this song. It speaks to the idea that while we aren’t always in control of our plans we can find the bright side of the rainbow where wonderful things can happen. Austin’s maturity and thoughtfulness came through these ideas and lyrics.

The Fisk Jubilee Singers is a perfect match to depict the mood and meaning of this song.

Lyrics

Fisk Jubilee SingersOh Happy Day
Oh Happy Day
The future is bright
It’s going my way
Oh Happy Day
Oh Happy Day
Change in my life
Future so bright
Oh Happy Day

Well I had big plans
For my senior year
With all of my friends
To go ride the back roads
Fun never ends

God had other plans
Plans for me
So I did my part
Waiting in the hospital
For a new heart

Oh Happy Day
Oh Happy Day
The future is bright
It’s going my way
Oh Happy Day
Oh Happy Day
Change in my life
Future so bright
Oh Happy Day

October seventeenth
I was happy and scared
My new heart arrived
Someone else’s heart
Was gonna keep me alive

Oh Happy Day
Oh Happy Day
The future is bright
It’s going my way
Oh Happy Day
Oh Happy Day
Change in my life
Future so bright
Oh Happy Day
