Someone Else's Little Girl - 30 second clip:

About the Song from music therapist Jenny Plume

I had many sessions with Courtney during her time at the hospital. She often used creative writing and poetry to express her feelings. This was a very natural form of expression for her and easily lent itself to songwriting. We spent many hours together talking and tweaking her poetry to create a moving lyric.

While at first listen, some would consider this a sad song; in talking with her, it really was a song of gratitude to the power of love that can come from unexpected places.

Lyrics

You were always drinking
You never cared about me
And the only time you did
It didn’t count

You hit you screamed you lied
You locked yourself away
You didn’t even want to be there
In the first place

Sometimes at night
I wonder out loud
Why it took 7 years
For you to get out
I kept on tryin’
To make you proud
But you never were
Now I’m someone else’s little girl

Under the blankets I wonder
Do you think of me
You didn’t leave me with fond memories
Just scars that haunt my dreams

Repeat Chorus

I found someone who could save me
He was there when I cried
A beautiful angel named Andy
He’s not perfect but at least he tries
That night when I told him I loved him
For the first time
I swear I saw those tears come to his eyes... but still...

Repeat Chorus
