Richard Ho, M.D., Selected for Presidential Early Career Award

December 30, 2013

Richard Ho, M.D., associate professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, has been named one of 102 researchers selected for the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the United States Government on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers.

“The impressive achievements of these early-stage scientists and engineers are promising indicators of even greater successes ahead,” President Obama said in a release on the White House website. “We are grateful for their commitment to generating the scientific and technical advancements that will ensure America’s global leadership for many years to come.”

Dr. Ho was nominated for research funded through the Department of Health and Human Services. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms by which drug transporters contribute to overall chemotherapy disposition and interindividual response to drug therapy in cancer treatment. He was awarded RO1 funding in 2013 to investigate Hepatic organic anion transporting polypeptides drug transporters and chemotherapy disposition.

"Dr. Ho embodies the essence of a successful physician scientist," said Debra Friedman, M.D., director of the Division of Hematology and Oncology. "He provides care with great compassion to his patients and their families. In the laboratory, he is bright, steadfast with an exceptional work ethic and native curiosity required for success."
