Letter from the Chair

August 27, 2018

It's nice to pause and reflect occasionally on the progress we’ve made toward our shared vision for the Department of Pediatrics—to provide leadership nationally and internationally in children's health through excellence in clinical care, education, advocacy and research. This morning's State of the Department was an excellent opportunity to recognize what our amazing faculty and staff have accomplished together over the past year and to look forward to our future.

One of the things I enjoy most about my job as your chair is catching up with you and learning a little about what you've been focusing on. I'm always so impressed by the creativity, passion and focus that each of you brings to your work. You are making a difference every day in our community, our nation, and in many cases, throughout the world. When you see me at Grand Rounds, research conference, Chairman’s Cup or buying a cup of coffee at Suzy's, I'd love for you to tell me a story about something you've been working on lately or something that really excites you.

This issue of the newsletter highlights many of the successes of the department, describes recent faculty who have joined us and provides updates on some fantastic resources and opportunities in the Vanderbilt community. I hope you enjoy learning a little more about the department and its incredible accomplishments and opportunities.
