Country music legend, Ronnie McDowell, loves children; and he’s bringing two-truckloads of love to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital today. At 1 p.m. Tuesday June 15, McDowell will arrive at the hospital’s front entrance to donate items that will help the children and families staying at the hospital.

"Ronnie just wants to do something that makes the kids happy," said long-time McDowell assistant, Ronnie Thurman. "He puts a big, empty water jug on the stage at every show. He’ll talk about helping the kids and then he’ll shake all the hands as the audience comes up and puts money in. The fan clubs raise money throughout the year too for the Ronnie McDowell Cancer Foundation."

McDowell, a resident of Hendersonville, is stopping by the children’s hospital between tour dates to offer items purchased through his cancer foundation and donated by Michaels’s crafts. The items, including things like the carts and wagons parents pull the kids around in and baby clothes for NICU babies, represent almost everything on the hospital’s Child Life Department wish list. McDowell is also bringing pantry items and drinks for the families who stay at the hospital with their children.

"We tried to supply most of the wish list items," Thurman said. "And Ronnie is thrilled to get the chance to bring them by in person."
