Summer camp is often a child's first experience in independence. It's a time of growth and exploration in a safe place away from home. Camp Okawehna, at Cedar Crest campground in Lyles, Tenn., is a weeklong summer experience for children 6-18 who have kidney disease. Any child who has had a kidney transplant or that is on peritoneal or hemodialysis is welcome to attend. Food, activities, and on-site medical facilities, including a full-service hemodialysis unit, offer children the complete camp experience.
