The hospital school at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital helps children keep up with schoolwork and maintain academic skills. School is important because it maintains a normal routine and allows your child to return to school with less stress. We maintain a classroom complete with age-level textbooks and computers. The school offers three teaching programs.

The Hospital School Program helps patients and families set up homebound services. When a child is absent from school for 10 days or more, they can officially enroll in their local school's homebound program. If your child is eligible for homebound support, the teacher will work with your school district and medical team to develop a plan. If a patient is in the hospital for a lengthy stay, the hospital schoolteacher can work with your local school to coordinate assignments and provide school assistants. The hospital schoolteacher is available to help parents understand school laws and guidelines.

 Children in the hospital are eligible for free tutoring, regardless of their length of stay. Teacher volunteers offer tutoring in all subjects. Tutoring sessions can take place in the hospital classroom on the 8th floor or in the patient's room. We are also available to coordinate assignments with classroom teachers.

 The school provides a variety of fun and free educational activities for patients, including hands-on science projects. Contact the school program if you or your child would like more information.
