The pediatric dermatology service at Children's Hospital consists of both outpatient and inpatient consultations and ongoing care. Comprehensive evaluation and treatment of all types of skin diseases in children are offered. All new patients require a provider referral.
The pediatric dermatology clinics also serve as training sites for our dermatology and pediatric residents, with direct faculty supervision at all times. Each child is evaluated and treated by the attending pediatric dermatologist.
A wide variety of skin conditions are seen, including acne, atopic dermatitis (eczema), contact dermatitis, bacterial/viral/fungal/parasitic infections, ichthyosis, mastocytosis, birthmarks, psoriasis, inherited skin disorders, and toxic skin reactions from medications or infections. Any skin condition of children or adolescents can be evaluated.
Diagnostic procedures such as microscopic evaluation of skin samples and skin biopsies are performed in the clinic. More advanced surgical procedures can be arranged with the Vanderbilt Dermatology Laser Clinic, Vanderbilt Plastic Surgery, Children's Hospital Pediatric Surgery, or other specialties.
