Clinics and Programs

 

General Genetics Clinic

Our Genetics clinic serves children and adults. We seek to find the underlying reasons for medical concerns and provide you with counseling, management options, and resources. The clinic treats patients with birth defects, inborn errors of metabolism, connective tissue disease, developmental delay, and other genetic syndromes.

Our specialists also have expertise in adult-onset disorders such as, Huntington disease, hypertension, and pulmonary fibrosis.

Genetic Counseling Clinic

Our Genetic Counseling team offers clinics that include risk assessment based on family or personal history, education on genetic conditions or risk factors, provision of resources, education for families so they can make decisions about their genetic health, and psychosocial counseling for patients with or at risk for genetic conditions.

Prenatal genetic counseling is offered through the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and their Board Certified Genetic Counselors.

Lysosomal Storage Disease Clinic

Our clinic specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with lysosomal storage disorders; conditions in which the body is unable to process specific substances appropriately which can lead to toxic accumulation within cells. We provide focused care for patients with conditions including Fabry, Pompe, Gaucher Disease, and other disorders.

Prader-Willi Syndrome Clinic

Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a neuroendocrine disorder characterized by low tone; advancement through multiple nutritional phases, from poor feeding to an inability to achieve satiety; developmental delays and intellectual disability; short stature; behavioral concerns including stubbornness, tantrums, obsessive compulsive-like characteristics, and skin-picking; sleep abnormalities; and underdeveloped sex organs. We are excited to have a multidisciplinary clinic focused on providing the most up-to-date care to you and your family.

In-Patient Consultations

Emergent inpatient consultations are provided 24 hours a day. Call (615) 322-7601 and ask the operator for the geneticist on call.

Newborn Screening

Finding genetic problems early is important for your child's health. Learn why every newborn in Tennessee is checked for genetic disorders using simple newborn screening tests.

Down Syndrome Clinic

The Down Syndrome Clinic at Children's Hospital consists of a team of specialties brought together in one clinic to provide the most effective care in a convenient and family-centered environment.

Cancer Genetics Clinic

If you or someone you love is facing a cancer diagnosis, you want to find the best care as soon as possible. It is important to receive your cancer diagnosis, treatment planning and care from a center with deep expertise in your specific type of cancer. The Hereditary Cancer Center will assist your medical team with your care, offer genetic testing, and provide cancer risk information for other family members.
