Eating Disorders Program

The Adolescent and Young Adult Eating Disorders Program at Children's Hospital is designed for the needs of children, adolescents, and young adults. Our services include evaluation and management of our patients’ conditions, providing medical, psychological, and nutritional treatment. Our health care professionals are committed to a family-based, multi-disciplinary team approach. We also include primary care physicians, psychologists, psychotherapists, nutritionists, psychiatrists, and other pediatric specialists as needed.

When we think about eating disorders, we tend to think in terms of dramatic weight loss. In fact, eating disorders represent a spectrum of emotional illnesses, characterized by the patient’s struggle with self-acceptance and body dissatisfaction.

While eating disorders are not as common in boys, there has been a noted increase in the number of adolescent males being treated for eating disorders.  For adolescent girls, eating disorders account for one-third of the most chronic illness for this group.

We treat the following eating disorders:

  • Anorexia nervosa
  • Bulimia nervosa
  • Binge eating disorders or compulsive overeating
  • Morbid/severe obesity
  • Other eating disorders
