What Sets Us Apart

At Children's Hospital, we care for children with IBD by taking into account the individual needs of each child and family. We are experts in the state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatments needed to help children with IBD stay healthy.

Our approach to care of children with IBD

Family-centered: We know a diagnosis of IBD not only impacts your child, but the whole family. We also understand each child and family with IBD is different. For these reasons, we will work with you and your child to develop individualized treatment plans to meet your unique needs.

Multidisciplinary: Optimal treatment of pediatric IBD requires an integrated approach. Our clinic is staffed by physicians, nurses, nutritionists, and social workers with expertise in pediatric IBD. In addition, we work closely with specialists in other disciplines such as pediatric surgery, psychology, pathology, and radiology with vast pediatric IBD experience.

Education: We know children with IBD do better when they understand the disease and treatments. That is why we have developed resources such as this website and our Comprehensive New Diagnosis Clinic to help children and families gain a better understanding of their IBD diagnosis, the approach to treatment, and where to turn for additional support.

State-of-the-art diagnostics and treatment: Our expert pediatric IBD team uses the most advanced technologies and therapies available for the diagnosis and treatment of IBD.

We offer the following state-of-the art diagnostics and treatments:

  • Pediatric Upper Endoscopy and Colonoscopy
  • Capsule Endoscopy ("Pill Cam")
  • Rectal Endoscopic Ultrasound for adolescents  (in collaboration with the adult IBD Center)
  • Pediatric CT (using pediatric low-radiation protocols) and MR Enterography
  • Vast experience with the most up-to-date treatments including biologics
  • Clinical trials of emerging IBD treatments for children
  • My Health at Vanderbilt, A free secure way to manage your child's health care and communicate with the IBD team online.
