About Us

The pediatric pharmacy provides comprehensive services to all patients and health care professionals at Children's Hospital. Our 25 pharmacists and 26 technicians are specially trained to provide patient-focused pharmaceutical care 24 hours a day. Safe and effective medication therapy is our primary goal.

Our pharmacists and technicians use advanced support systems to enhance pharmaceutical care to our patients. Many online resources are available via computer workstations in the hospital and pediatric pharmacy through the Eskind Biomedical Library.

Our computerized prescriber order entry system allows electronic transmission of orders so pharmacists can review and process them prior to dispensing. Automated dispensing cabinets on all patient care units enable efficient delivery of medicines to patients.

Patient care

Pharmacists are directly involved in both distributive and clinical services to promote optimal patient outcomes. These services include:

  • Pharmacist review of all pediatric medication orders including dose check, allergy screen, and drug interaction check
  • Providing compounded liquid formulations of many medications not commercially available
  • Participation on rounds in the intensive care units and throughout the hospital
  • Providing antibiotic pharmacokinetic consult notes for all pediatric patients
  • Medication counseling to patients and/or caregivers in the pediatric heart transplant, cystic fibrosis clinic and asthma clinic
  • Providing drug information to doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals throughout Children's Hospital
  • Participation on multi-disciplinary committees including Asthma Steering Committee, Clinical Practice Committee, and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee

We are teaching the next generation of pediatric pharmacists. Read more about our opportunities for residency training and pediatric student rotations.

The pediatric pharmacy supports all research conducted at Children's Hospital through the Investigational Drug Service. Our staff works in collaboration with this service to ensure all investigational products follow study protocols and are prepared and delivered in a safe and timely manner.
