Tri My Best Triathlon
Champ’s A-Team Tri My Best Triathlon enable adaptive athletes to discover a lifelong love of sports and lifetime friendships. Our first event took place Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center. Event details and schedule of events.
Champ’s A-Team is an athlete buddy program through Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. The buddy program pairs a child with a disability with a child without a disability needs to complete a race as a team, using modifications if necessary. By working as a team, each child learns that winning is not at the end of the race, but in the journey getting there together. Buddy teams are accompanied by an adult buddy throughout the race.
SWIM: Children complete the swim alongside their buddy, by being pulled in a raft by their buddy or swimming with a noodle or kickboard.
BIKE: The bike portion may be completed on an adaptive bike or pedaling a standard bike alongside their buddy.
RUN: Children may be pushed in a wheelchair or jogging stroller during the run. Special-needs athletes who are able, may jog or walk any part of the course, including across the finish.
Swim: 50 yards/ 2 laps
Bike: 1 mile
Run: 0.4 mile
