Nashville Kids Triathlon 2013
What a Great Day!
With more than 75 kids, Team Vanderbilt was the largest team at this year's Nashville Kids Triathlon. What an amazing showing for Vanderbilt and a wonderful fundraiser for Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. The triathlon was a healthy and fun way to spend a Sunday morning in May for all the participants and spectators.
Team Vanderbilt Buddy Program
With the help of the Children's Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinic, we had three buddy teams join Cayden and Conner Long for the 2013 Nashville Kids Triathlon. Natalie and Dylan, Tiffany and Faith, and Trey and Meg competed in all the triathlon activities.
Starting in the pool, each teammate pulled their buddy in a raft for the 100 yard swim. On the bike course, each buddy was positioned in an adaptive bike that allowed them to actually "ride" the 3 mile bike course with their physical therapists pushing or pulling the bike while their buddy rode seperatly along side. Finally, for the 1/2 mile run course, each buddy rode in an adapted stroller while their teammate pushed them. Tiffany and Meg also were able to get out of their strollers before the finish line and walk across the line with their buddy. It was an amazing day.
