Frequently Asked Questions

Will I share a room?

Children's Hospital has private rooms for your child's hospital stay.

If your child is having surgery, the holding rooms before surgery may be either a single room or your child may share a large room with other patients. These rooms have curtains for your child's privacy.

Can I stay with my child?

Yes. We encourage you to be with your child and participate in your child's care. If your child is being admitted to an area of Children's Hospital other than the intensive care units, up to two adults may stay overnight. For the intensive care units, two adults are allowed to be present in the hospital overnight. However, there is only space available for one parent to sleep in the room. Please check with the nursing staff to receive an overnight visitor's pass.

Can my child have visitors?

Visits from other family members and friends are encouraged during the day and evening hours. The routine visiting hours are 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

All family and visitors should wash their hands upon entering a child's room. If a visitor has a fever, rash, diarrhea, vomiting, cold, or any recent exposure to communicable disease (chicken pox, measles, mumps), for the protection of our patients, they may not come to the patient care floors.

In the intensive care unit setting, the number of visitors is restricted to three at a time. SIblings are the only visitors under the age of 18 that are allowed in this area.

Do you provide free wifi?

What food is available for parents while staying in the hospital?

Food courtThe Children's Way Cafe is located on the second floor of Children's Hospital. Restaurants include Subway, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Suzie's Espresso, Ben and Jerry's, and Vandy Cafe. Food is also available for purchase in the third floor vending/food area. If you want to grab a free quick snack, check out what is available in the Ronald McDonald Family Room. We encourage donations here, so feel free to drop them some change!

You can also ask for directions to the adult hospital cafeteria, which has a large selection of food for purchase.

What activities are available for my child during hospitalization?

We have many activities around the hospital for children. If patients cannot leave their room, a large selection of activities can be brought to them. For patients that may leave their room, check out our playrooms.

Many special events take place throughout the week. Check out the special events calendars in your area to see the latest listing. Patients can watch events on the stage on their in-room TVs (channel 35).
