Frequently Asked Questions

How do I obtain information about Tennessee licensure?
Please contact the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy regarding reciprocity and sitting for the Tennessee pharmacy law exam. Vanderbilt University Medical Center currently pays the licensure fee and the professional privilege tax for all pharmacists.

How are holidays handled? 
The resident is expected to participate in the departmental holiday rotation for up to 3 holidays per year.

What professional meetings will I have the opportunity to attend?
The resident receives funding to attend the Annual Meeting of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG) in the spring. Professional leave will be provided for attendance at other meetings and must be approved by the RPD.

Will I have an office?
The resident has a dedicated work space and computer.  Office supplies are readily available to the resident upon request.

What are the staffing requirements?
The resident participates in a department weekend staffing rotation. 

Will I have the opportunity to precept pharmacy students?
We currently precept students from several colleges of pharmacy including the University of Tennessee, Belmont University and Lipscomb University. The resident may co-precept some of these students during the last six months of their residency. This would include meeting with the students on a daily basis to discuss patient cases and completing midpoint and final evaluations under the direction of the faculty preceptor.

Do you offer a teaching certificate as a part of the residency program?
A teaching certificate program is offered for residents that are interested in participating through the University of Tennessee.
