Flu facts

  • Each year, up to one in five people get the flu
  • More than 200,000 people have to go to the hospital because of the flu
  • About 36,000 people die from flu complications

Why should my child get the flu shot?

The flu can make your child very sick. It can cause other illnesses like pneumonia, or lead to complications such as dehydration. The flu can also aggrivate or worsen lung diseases such as asthma.

The best way to help your child not get the flu is by getting the flu shot every year.

comfortWho should get the flu shot?

  • All children aged six months to 18 years old, unless their doctor tells them they should not get the flu shot.
  • Pregnant women
  • People who live with or care for young children
  • Any person with chronic health problems
