Pediatric Fellowships at Vanderbilt Eye Institute

We offer an approved one-year fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus. The fellowship provides training for a comprehensive practice in pediatric ophthalmology. While strabismus is the mainstay of the pediatric practice, the fellowship also emphasizes pediatric cataract and anterior segment surgery. Learn more at: Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus.

Orthoptist Certification

Vanderbilt Eye Institute is accredited for two orthoptic students per year who meet qualifications and have a baccalaureate degree (BA or BS) before entering the program. The training includes 200 hours of didactic learning and clinic rotations in our pediatric ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology clinics.

See fellowship details at: Orthopist Certification at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine

Research

The research program at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute focuses on translational science: work that directly relates either to patient care or to developing new treatments for eye disease and injury. Basic scientists work closely with clinician scientists to seek a better fundamental understanding of the eye in health and disease. Our large patient population provides an extensive database for our clinical studies. These studies are often the driving force for new experimental investigations.
