Kohl's Stay Seat Smart Program

Kohl's Stay Seat Smart Program

Kohl’s Cares and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt have partnered in the creation of a new program called the Kohl’s Stay Seat Smart Program. This multifaceted program addresses car seat misuse through education, community outreach, and media awareness to bring about enhanced knowledge and desired behavioral change in our region. In the state of Tennessee alone, the rate of car seat misuse is estimated to be 82 percent.

One of the objectives of the program is to increase awareness among parents and caregivers about proper car seat use, best practice, and state laws, as well as to connect them with child passenger safety (CPS) resources.

The educational component plays a pivotal role in getting the message of car seat safety into community; the Child Passenger Safety Class for adults and the “Booster Up” Class for elementary aged students are both offered in Rutherford, Williamson, and Davidson counties free of charge.

Education is imparted through:

  • Child Passenger Safety 101 Classes
  • Day care and child care family and provider education
  • “Booster Up” Classes for pre-k through second grade students
  • Child Passenger Safety Booths at community events
